Mount Kenya Sirimon (Ascend) – Chogoria (Descent) Route

  • Pick up from your hotel or home in the early morning and depart from Nairobi at 0800hrs, driving through the agricultural region of central Kenya to Nanyuki, Laikipia County, a country
    town in the Northern side of Mount Kenya town for lunch.
  • We shall take our lunch in Nanyuki town, then proceed to the Sirimon Gate at 2660 meters above sea level. We hike though the moorland and breathtaking sceneries to the Old Moses Camp at 3300 meters above sea level.
  • This will be our base for the night, where we shall set camp
  • At daybreak, we shall take warm breakfast and park ahead of a 6 to 7 hours hike through memory lasting sceneries, marked with moorland and remarkable landmarks like Ontulili River.
  • We shall ascend gently, amazed by the views of the mountain’s peaks at a distant as we transcend through the Mackinders Valley.
  • Upon arrival at the Shipton’s Camp, we shall enjoy a late lunch light meal as we climatize. Siting at 4,200 meters above sea level, this shall be our base for dinner and the overnight rest
  • Wake up early morning at 3:00 am and start and begin a 3 hours hike to the highest point on the mountain, the Lenana Peak at 4,200m. We shall explore breathtaking views as the day
    breaks.
  • At 6:00 we shall be at the peak of the peak, and enjoy a breathtaking moment as  the sun rises, giving you very rare yet magical moment to view the sun as it hits the horizons. At
    the top of Mount Kenya, you can see the icy cap of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Mount Elgon bordering Kenya and Uganda, and the prominent slopes of the Aberdare Ranges. This makes Mount Kenya one of the most beautiful and rewarding trekking point on the globe.
  • After moments of photos and shooting memorable and award winning video moments if you remembered to carry a nice camera, we shall begin the descend to Mintos Camp, at which point we shall take breakfast and relax ahead of a slow descend to either Road Head or Lake Ellis at 3,300 meters for camping.
  • The descend will definitely be marked significantly in your
    memory as the sceneries down the slopes force you to stop and get mermerised. It is often chosen for its stunning views of Lake Michaelson and the surrounding landscape. Lake Ellis
    will definitely be an option of choice, as you would not want to miss the golden reflection of distant light, the stars and the whistling sound of the cool breeze against the gentle lake lying on a mountain like a floating bubble.
  • Upon arrival to Lake Ellis, you shall enjoy a warm meal and retire for the night
  • After waking up, enjoy the scenic views by the lake, take a stroll by the lake trails and enjoy the magic that the Kenyan heritage.
  • After breakfast, we shall explore Mau Mau caves, the hideout of the renowned Mau Mau fighters that fought for the independence of Kenya.
  • We shall then proceed to the waterfalls, another must-see out-of-this world site that feels like a dream.
  • Then we shall embark on a slow 3 hours descent to reach the bandas camp where a vehicle shall be waiting to ferry us back to Nairobi, to arrive at 16:00 pm.
