Kenya's parks hold resident wildlife all year, so the right time for you depends more on what you're prioritising - migration season, drier roads, lower rates, or fewer other visitors - than on any one "correct" month.
These are the most popular months to visit. Vegetation is thinner, so game viewing is generally easier, and roads are in better condition. July to October also overlaps with the wildebeest migration's presence in the Masai Mara, making it the busiest and most expensive stretch of the year.
This is Kenya's quietest and least expensive safari season. Expect afternoon downpours rather than constant rain, lush green scenery, and noticeably fewer vehicles at sightings. Some camps close temporarily during this period, so availability is more limited.
A shorter, lighter rainy spell that most itineraries can work around without much disruption - a reasonable middle ground between the crowded dry season and the quiet long rains.
If the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River is the priority, plan for July-October and book well ahead. If you'd rather have a quieter, less expensive trip and don't mind some rain, the shoulder months either side of that window are worth a look.
