Uganda's safari appeal is built around its primates - roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas live in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and Kibale Forest offers some of the region's most reliable chimpanzee tracking. Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park add classic savannah and river game viewing alongside the primate trekking. Below are our current Uganda itineraries.
Uganda issues a limited number of permits per gorilla family per day, so we recommend booking several months ahead, especially for peak travel periods (June-September and December-February).
It varies day to day depending on where the gorilla family has moved to - anywhere from a short, easy walk to several hours over steep forest terrain. A reasonable fitness level helps, and a porter can be hired locally for extra support.
