This is the most direct way to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda - one permit, one trek, with travel days either side. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest holds roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population, spread across several habituated family groups.
One hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family
Bwindi's dense, biodiverse forest setting
Small group sizes (permits limit visitors per gorilla family per day)
A genuinely rare wildlife experience
Accommodation: Mid-range lodge near Bwindi (upgradeable to luxury)
Vehicle: 4x4 safari vehicle
Bwindi can be visited year-round since trekking happens regardless of season, though the two drier windows (June-August and December-February) mean less mud on the trekking trails. Wetter months still offer good trekking - the terrain is simply more demanding underfoot.
