Ruaha is southern Tanzania's hidden giant - a huge, rugged park where you can often enjoy a lion or leopard sighting without another vehicle in view. Its landscapes of rocky kopjes, baobab forests and the Great Ruaha River support some of the country's largest elephant populations and impressive predator numbers. Two full days of game drives give you time to explore both the river circuit and the more remote corners of the park.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

D1 Dar es Salaam to Ruaha Dar es Salaam → Morogoro → Iringa → Ruaha National Park
An early start for the long but scenic drive inland through Morogoro and the Iringa highlands, with stops for lunch and to stretch your legs. Arrive at your lodge near the park in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight.
D2 Full Day in Ruaha Ruaha National Park
A full day of game drives across savannah, baobab woodland and rocky hills, searching for elephant, lion, leopard, giraffe and greater kudu. Picnic lunch in the park and back to the lodge for sunset.
D3 Great Ruaha River & Remote Areas Ruaha National Park
Another full day focused on the Great Ruaha River and the park's quieter areas, where wildlife gathers at the water - hippo, crocodile, buffalo and the predators that follow them. Picnic lunch included.
D4 Ruaha to Dar es Salaam Ruaha National Park → Dar es Salaam
Breakfast and the return drive to Dar es Salaam via Iringa and Morogoro, arriving in the evening. Alternatively, fly back from the park airstrip in around two hours.
