Tour Overview

Most of our Tanzania itineraries treat the Serengeti as one stop among several. This one is built around the Serengeti itself - moving between its central, northern and western areas over several days so you can follow the migration more closely, revisit productive spots, and see a wider range of the park's terrain than a two or three day visit allows. Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater bookend the trip.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

D1 Arusha to Tarangire Arusha → Tarangire National Park

Pick-up and drive to Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive among its elephant herds and baobabs.

D2 Tarangire to Central Serengeti Tarangire National Park → Serengeti National Park (Seronera area)

Drive to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving in the central Seronera area - known for year-round resident wildlife - in time for an afternoon game drive.

D3 Full Day in Central Serengeti Serengeti National Park (Seronera area)

A full day of game drives around the Seronera River valley, one of the more reliable areas for predator sightings at any time of year.

D4 Central to Northern or Western Serengeti Serengeti National Park

Repositioning drive to a different part of the park - the northern Mara River area or the western corridor - depending on where the migration or best game viewing is at the time of your visit.

D5 Full Day in This Area Serengeti National Park

A full day exploring this section of the park, with a different landscape and wildlife pattern from the central plains.

D6 Second Day in This Area Serengeti National Park

A further full day to make the most of this part of the Serengeti before heading back toward the crater.

D7 Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Serengeti National Park → Ngorongoro Crater

Drive to the crater rim, with a game drive on the crater floor either this afternoon or the following morning depending on timing.

D8 Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha

A final crater floor game drive if not already completed, then drive back to Arusha for onward travel.

Best Time to Visit

Dry season (roughly June-October) concentrates wildlife along the river and is generally considered the best game-viewing window; wetter months see animals disperse more widely across the wider ecosystem.
